Impeachment Proceedings: A Guess 5.18.25

First, let me say, I am happy enough to see the House do *something* about the executive shitshow. I just think the timing is poor given the number of Republican reps needed to effect any meaningful change. It’s a catch 22: if they wait until midterms, they have a better chance of turning more rep seats blue. But if they wait until midterms to take real action, the Democrats risk losing the seats they have. And so, we proceed.

Deck: Millennial Tarot

Card 1: Page of Swag Rv

Democrats are known for their decorum, but in this case it’s their downfall. At best, they are focused too much on the rules of order and not following their instincts or the advice of their constituents. At worst, they’re following advice of lobbyists and corporate interests to not rock the boat too much.

The guidebook of this deck captures it best, “You must know when to follow the protocols and when to experiment with your own methodologies to execute a strategy that outperforms the rest.”

Card 2: Seven of Swag Rv

The core of this card is that regardless of all the hard work and efforts, it will not succeed. Again, they’re not listening to their constituents, and putting all their eggs in one basket will leave people feeling disillusioned and frustrated. But not hopeless, and that’s important.

Card 3: Ace of Thoughts

The outcome of the proceedings will inspire a shift in ideas within the MAGA base. The seeds of change were planted in this chaotic first 100 days (refer back to The Tower in my 5.7.25 reading), and the base is feeling burned, swindled, and hoodwinked. The impeachment proceedings are not for nothing. While a failure may alienate “blue no matter who”, it’s also going to mobilize traditional republican voters to differentiate themselves from the fringe MAGA, and it’s going to empower some current MAGAs to walk away and think for themselves. they will not be able to ignore that age old question “are you doing better now than you were four years ago?”

Conclusion / My Hopes:

Not to be all “kumbaya” about it, but the environment is ripe for strategic — if unconventional — alliances. There’s such a huge opportunity for pissed off MAGAs, trad Republicans, and disillusioned Democrats to form a sort of informal grassroots effort to become ungovernable *together*. Dialogue influences social change. Each group has already shown its prowess in weaponizing media platforms to attack each other, so imagine the influence they could wield together toward a couple of common goals. I am tentatively hopeful that we can pull back from the brink of authoritarianism.
